The 5th day of Christmas --- ready, sing it with me . . . ♫♪♫ five go-old rings ♪♫♪. The catch part of the song - or maybe most annoying part? lol -- you decide. But today is in fact the 5th day of Christmas and today's gift is 5 gold rings.
Looking at the original song/poem -- some people think that the five gold rings actually refer to the markings of a ring-necked pheasant. This would make sense given the bird motif of the early verses. It wouldn't make sense to be singing about birds right along - switch to jewelry, and back to birds again for day 6 - so, the "five golden rings" are likely a reference to ring-necked pheasants.
The five golden rings are a Biblical reference to the first five books of the Old Testament, also known as the Pentateuch. The books are: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
